A Grease Spill Called In at 8am and Cleared the Same Morning
Premier Grease Recycling called at eight on a Wednesday with a spill behind a Blanco restaurant. The cleaning was the straightforward part. Finding a crew who could be there that morning was not.

The short version
Premier Grease Recycling handles the grease routes for restaurants across the Hill Country. Their transportation manager called us at 8am on a Wednesday: a grease spill on the asphalt behind the Dairy Queen in Blanco, and it needed clearing that day. We had a crew on site by 10:45 and off it by 12:15. The grease came up and the surface went back to being walked and driven on. A shadow stayed in the asphalt, and leaving it there was the right call rather than a shortfall.
The hard part was the crew, not the grease
An emergency call is only an emergency if somebody can actually go. At eight in the morning on a Wednesday every crew already has a day, and the customers on that day booked ahead of the one calling now. Saying yes means somebody's schedule moves.
That is the whole difficulty of same-day work, and it is why most companies quietly do not offer it. We said yes, found the crew, and had them in Blanco inside three hours of the phone ringing. Reed at Premier's review is about that and not about the cleaning.
Why grease is a different job from dirt
Grease on asphalt behaves nothing like the grime a surface cleaner is built for, and treating it the same way is how a spill ends up spread rather than removed.
-
Water alone moves it, it does not lift it
Grease does not dissolve in water. Hit it with pressure before anything has broken it down and it travels: wider across the lot, further into the cracks, and toward whatever drain sits downhill. The chemistry has to go first and it has to be given time.
-
Asphalt is porous and petroleum based
A concrete slab holds a spill near the surface. Asphalt drinks it, and the binder holding the asphalt together is itself an oil, so anything aggressive enough to strip every trace of grease is aggressive enough to take the surface with it.
-
A kitchen yard is a walking surface
The reason a grease spill is urgent is traction. Staff cross that ground carrying things, in kitchen shoes, several times a shift. Getting the slick off is the deliverable and it is the part that has to be finished before anyone is back on it.
-
Runoff is somebody's problem either way
Everything lifted off the surface has to go somewhere that is not the storm drain. That constraint shapes how the work is done from the first minute, and it is the part a hose and a quick blast gets wrong.
Degreaser down, given time, then worked off
The treatment went down across the affected ground and was left to break the grease down before anything else happened. The waiting is not downtime. It is the step that decides whether what follows lifts the grease or simply relocates it.
How the morning ran
- 8:00am
The call comes in
Premier Grease Recycling's transportation manager reports a grease spill behind the Blanco restaurant and needs it dealt with today.
- Before 10:45
Finding the crew
A crew is pulled together and routed to Blanco, which on a Wednesday morning means moving work that was already booked.
- 10:45am
On site
Treatment applied across the affected ground and given the time it needs to break the grease down.
- 12:15pm
Clear of site
Grease lifted, surface safe to walk and drive on, crew off the lot and the yard back in use.
The outcome
Safe underfoot, and straight about the shadow
The grease came off and the ground went back into service the same morning it was reported. The slick that made it urgent was gone, which was what the call was actually about.
A shadow stayed in the asphalt, and we would rather say so than let a photograph imply otherwise. Grease that has soaked into a porous, petroleum-based surface leaves a mark, and getting that mark out means working the asphalt harder than the asphalt can take. The hazard was the job. The discoloration was cosmetic, and on a service yard behind a kitchen it was the right thing to leave.
Very impressed with the response time and the quality of the cleanup.
